I've been unfaithful to this blog

and I discovered my love for tumblr. Though that is really no excuse to totally ignore my blog spot, literally since after the fashion show!
Not much has been happening, I've been getting my studio organized and decorated, and I work full time at Lovely Betty Consignment Boutique and I've been loving it there.
I'm moving into the cute apartment on the side of Lovely Betty house, and once I am settled it should be easier to get busy in my studio once its in the same house that I live in :p

I'll post another entry later, maybe with some photos of my studio space in its progress (still need a few finishing touches!

reeeeading raaaaaiinbow!

So before the fashion show all the girls have to display one outfit in a store window downtown. I chose to display at Owls Nest Book store on Queen street.
I decided to make a prop piece to go in behind my outfit, and here it is, a reading rainbow!!! :)

tea stains and silk screens

here is an example of 2 different techniques I worked into my line.

I took some of my old poetry (8 years old actually) and made it into a silk screen print. I got my classmate Lise to hand write the original print because her penmanship is much better then mine. I then took those patches of fabric and gave them a tea bath, as well as another fabric I am using in my line.

since this image I dyed them all one more time for a slightly darker colour than this!

here is another sneak peek

of a piece from my line.
This can be worn as a skirt by a fearless warrior women leading all she knows and loves to safety, or as an awesome accessory over your pants....or no pants, you can decide. ;D

and to show the corseted side!

(click and they grow a bit!!!!)

yay feathers and map fabrics!!!!

I'm not showing any more actual garments until the show...I'm probably going to post a few more progress pics though!

a sneak peek

I really don't feel overly comfortable sharing much of my actual pieces for my line, sketch or garment wise, until my clothing has walked the run way in April.

but I thought I'd post a picture of a couple of my bracelets I've been making for the line, because I'm just not that mean!
;)

I will be doing a photo shoot tomorrow night with another even more awesome accessory I completed for my line, perhaps I'll share that too!

also, here is the song my models are going down the runway too.

Inspiration for my line

My line is coming together nicely, I'm almost done pattern drafting, just a couple more hours on some sleeves and alterations. over half my line is already mocked up and I've started cutting out a lot of actual fabric.
I've strung together the feathers for Karens skirt :D
Doing pretty good, starting to worry just a bit, but doing better then I thought I would be at this time.
I need to get some pictures asap, I keep forgetting to take my camera to school! I'd love to share sketches but I just don't think its safe to do things like that until after the clothing is made and has walked the runway.
but I can post a few pictures that are inspirational to my line.

Almost Snowflake time

I'll be in Moncton on the set for Snowflake all weekend, here is another peek at the almost finished garment!

I'm pretty happy with it, I'm almost done, just need to sew on a couple more strips and pack on just a touch more snow :D

In other news, I almost have the first half of my line mocked up <3 I'm so happy about that :) I'll have it all neat and ready to be critiqued by the end of thursday.
I'm going to take pictures of all my patterns and mock ups and share them here really soon :)

luuux.com

Post your favorite things, make point money to buy awesome stuff!

I shared some of my portfolio photos there to gain a few initial points :)

its a marshmallow world

So for my class on friday, I have to update this blog at least once a week with a picture and description of something I might be working on! :)

So I thought I'd share Snowflake!

Snowflake is a conceptual-element like character I'm designing and making for a short film directed by Tim O'Neil, being shot at the end of February.

(click and it grows)

As you can see, I am covering this choppy layered dress with beautiful fake snow, that is looking just lovely, and I'm covering the whole thing in it, with beloved
UHU!

On another note. I am very excited for the
Surreal Masquerade at the Art Gallery on Saturday evening.
Should be a whole load of fun!

thots

Life is a constant battle against deadlock. As long as we are alive, as long as we continue challenging ourselves, we are bound to come up against difficult obstacles that need to be overcome. If life were all smooth sailing, if we never encountered setbacks, that in itself would be a sign of stagnation.
If you are neglecting things you should be doing, forgetting your purpose in life because of the relationship you're in, then you're on the wrong path. A healthy relationship is one in which two people encourage each other to reach their respective goals while sharing each others hopes and dreams.
A relationship should be a source of inspiration, invigoration and hope...

A Good update of whats going on!

For our class, Website for promotion, we are to blog about some of the processes of our work and post pictures and such. I'm not exactly 100% what I'm going to document yet but I'll figure it out sometime this week.

Right now I'm just trying to warm up my blogging fingers.

So here is life in a nutshell for this year.
I graduate from NBCCD in the spring with a diploma for Fine Craft and Applied Design (for Fashion Design)
Our Fashion show (name of event pending) Will be held April 16th at 7pm at the Fredericton Delta. I will have a line of 9 outfits go down the runway (including my own outfit!) As you can imagine I am very excited and very busy, as I have never created a line of clothing before, I am learning it takes A LOT of time when you are just starting out in the world of fashion design!

I could chose to go back to school in the Fall to take an advanced studies diploma year, but my boss offered me an opportunity over the Xmas break that I could not turn down.
As I have talked about here before, I work for an awesome woman named Tina Robinson at a woman's consignment boutique called Lovely Betty.
In the next month, Lovely Betty will be moving out of its dank hole at Brook Side mall, and moving into a beautiful old house on Canada St. out in Marysville.
Once I've graduated in May,I will be working there full time, and Tina is giving me a studio space in the new house!!! That way I can start working on my own business while I take care of Lovely Betty at the same time. I will also hopefully be starting a website for Lovely Betty so we can sell our vintage goods for a more proper price.

I am very excited! There is also an apartment on the side of the house that they are going to renovate and its a good chance that Scott and I might move in there. It would be very convenient in multiple ways for the both of us!!!

Things are falling together quite nicely, and because of that I feel pretty relaxed about my future, which is nice because I need that reassurance during what is a pretty stressful last few months of school.

ps: I hate not posting pictures in blogs, so heres just a random one of me from the other day. I am SO pensive, staring out my window lost it thought. LOL

...back?

SO its been forever since I've posted here, but I need to get in the habit of building this blog into something better and more useful. I still just want to fill it with inspirational pictures and quotes, and share my artwork on it, but I never seem to find the time to sit and write out something good. I have to try and fix it's settings too because pictures are being cut off and I'm not html suave enough to know what to do about it.

But anyway, now I plan to post AT LEAST once a week, if not more.
I want to promise I'll write every Friday evening to wrap up the week in some way, and I'll try to keep it interesting.
